Recal Training
I’m Anthony Lorubbio,
Founder, head coach, and serial self-experimenter behind Recal Training. Like many of you, I came to the mountains out of curiosity, both for the place and what I’d learn about myself. And I stayed for something deeper, realizing how transformative they can be — especially when you train your breathing like any other muscle group.
I’ve completed multiple certifications in breathwork (including Oxygen Advantage, Wim Hof Method, and Peak Flow) and am currently pursuing a master’s in Exercise Physiology. But more than that, I’ve tested all of this on myself — from taping my mouth shut during a marathon (my first and only) to racing up 14,000-foot peaks without prior acclimatization. These tests guided our initial research, but I was more than happy to hand the reins off to better athletes and bigger mountains for the final testing before our official public launch.
I built Recal to take the science and research-backed methods of breathwork for performance (especially at altitude) and translate it into something useful, practical, and powerful. My goal is to empower you to achieve the transformation you seek, using your breath and the mountains to get there.
What We Believe
- You don’t need to move to the mountains to train for them.
- No one ever taught you how to breathe. We’re here to change that.
- Summiting mountains isn’t for the ego. It’s for self-discovery and introspection.
- Let’s leave these special places in better condition than they were before us. → The only change we should create is the one within ourselves.
- Endurance is a practice. So is presence. Use your breath to achieve both.

The Recal Approach
We train breathing like you train your legs: with intention, progression, and purpose. Our system is built on three core pillars:
Better Breathing Mechanics
Learn to breathe more optimally: through your nose, slowly/fully, and low into the diaphragm. The goal is oxygen efficiency, nervous system regulation, and movement economy at altitude.
Respiratory Muscle Training
Your diaphragm is THE “breathing” muscle. And your intercostals / abdomen are important for every inhale and exhale. At high altitude, your breathing demands more from them – and they’ll fatigue much faster. We build their strength and endurance so you can prevent them from becoming your limiting factor
High Altitude Adaptation
Using breathwork protocols that simulate low-oxygen / high-CO2 conditions for your body, we kickstart a few key adaptations before you even step on the mountain. Think of it as pre-acclimatization — without the altitude tent.
Who this Is for?
First-time trekkers preparing for Kilimanjaro or Everest Base Camp
Mid or post-career professionals going all-in on their mountain goals
Amateur ultra runners training for high-altitude races
Guides and climbers heading back for another 6,000m+ peak
Whether you live at sea level or sleep in a van above 9,000 feet, our program helps you breathe, recover, and perform with more power and less panic.
Results from the Mountain
Over 100+ mountain athletes have used our breathwork training to:
- Increase their oxygen saturation by 10% or more at altitude
- Recover faster between acclimatization hikes
- Improve quickly when symptoms of altitude sickness appear
- Hit personal bests in ultra races and mountain summits
These are just some examples of what our athletes have done. Our clients have gone from sea level to the summits of Cotopaxi, Rainier, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, and Everest — often without prior high-altitude experience.
